A company can own technology that customers find difficult to replace and still depend on an investment cycle. Gaztransport & Technigaz illustrates that tension particularly well.
GTT develops membrane containment technology for the transport and storage of liquefied gases. Its business combines intellectual property with engineering expertise and technical support. This gives investors exposure to the construction of LNG infrastructure through a business with relatively limited physical capital requirements. GTT business overview.
The appeal is clear. The harder question is how much to pay for earnings that depend on customers continuing to order new vessels.
What makes GTT worth studying?
GTT reported €803 million of revenue and €541.8 million of EBITDA in 2025, equivalent to a 67.5% EBITDA margin. These figures show the earning power of the business during a strong construction cycle. FY2025 results.
Our investment interest lies in the relationship between the value of the technology to customers and the capital GTT needs to provide it. A system that customers trust for a demanding engineering application can support attractive economics. Its durability still requires continuous innovation and competitive contract terms.
Why the latest profit growth needs context
First-half 2026 net income rose 16.9%, while revenue and EBITDA were broadly stable and EBIT fell 3.4%. The comparison benefited from exceptional charges recorded in the previous year, mainly related to Elogen. Treating that profit increase as equivalent to underlying operating growth would overstate the momentum. H1 2026 results.
Management maintained its 2026 objectives of €740–780 million in revenue and €490–530 million in EBITDA. Both ranges sit below the corresponding 2025 results. Management outlook.
Beyond the Obvious
A large order book provides visibility. The sustained replacement of completed work determines how long that visibility lasts.
The core order book fell from 332 units at the end of 2024 to 288 at the end of 2025, then recovered to 306 by June 2026. These counts exclude LNG as fuel. FY2025 presentation; H1 2026 financial report.
Our interpretation is that GTT deserves analysis as a strong technology franchise operating within a cyclical market. An extensive backlog can delay the effect of weaker orders. It cannot make future demand irrelevant.
Competitive and contractual risks also deserve attention. The 2025 Universal Registration Document confirms that the Korean competition decision became final in April 2023. Korean shipyards may request separation of technology licensing and technical support. GTT reported no such request at the document's filing date. That is the disclosed status at that date, rather than a claim that contractual risk has disappeared. 2025 URD, section 2.2.3.1.
Our investment view
MITUXA rating: WATCH. We use a €219 reference price, observed intraday on 9 September 2026, rather than an official closing price. Price reference.
Our exploratory base case assumes €10.5–11.5 of normalised annual earnings per share and an 18–20× earnings multiple, producing an indicative value range of €189–230 per share. These are MITUXA assumptions, not management forecasts or analyst consensus.
The central calculation is €11 × 19 = €209. A 15% discount to that figure implies approximately €178, which explains our €175–185 reassessment zone, provided the business thesis remains intact. It is a valuation reference, not a technical support level or an automatic buy order.
The attached slides explain the business, cash generation, competitive position, valuation sensitivity and risks that could invalidate this view. The assessment uses earnings scenarios rather than a detailed DCF. It does not add net cash separately or include future dividends in the indicative share values.
